story printed on reverse:

Marshy bogs, even the fungus has fungus

The swamps of Connecticut continued into Massachusetts and the air was so humid, it often felt like I was walking in a pool. The humidity created the perfect environment for a bloom of mushrooms. Surrounding me on the trail were fungi in a large variety of shapes, sizes, and colors. I stopped to photograph them often, despite the onslaught of mosquitoes. At one point, I found humor in the fact that some areas were so swampy that even the fungus had their own fungus growing on them. Nothing was immune from the humidity on this stretch of the trail.
