Need a dose of loose creative play to shake up the winter blues? In this 3-hour workshop, we’ll use a curated selection of vintage metal & wood type and ornaments and an array of ink colors to print one-of-a-kind cards, bookmarks, and art prints of various small sizes that fit in standard sized frames.
Instead of traditional typesetting with composing sticks, we'll use the playful quick-stamping technique that I use to "sketch" ideas on my vintage Vandercook Presses dating back to the 1960s.
Each participant will head home with a collection of one-off printed designs along with a newfound appreciation & knowledge of printing history.
No prior letterpress printing or design experience necessary whatsoever. This workshop is open to anyone, but I ask that any children under 16 are accompanied with a parent or guardian (separate ticket necessary if you both want to make your own prints).
This workshop is held in the Gingerly Press Studio located on the first floor in the Ice House Studios (wheelchair accessible) in the lively Central Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. After the workshop, enjoy dinner right up the street at one of the many locations along Butler Street— invite a friend and make an afternoon & evening of it!
Coffee, tea, water and light snacks will be provided during the workshop.
